Hi all!
I've joined this forum in anticipation of getting myself a Jag sometime next year. I owned a 1976 Daimler Sovereign for five years from 1992, but had to get "sensible" with a VW Golf followed by two Subaru Legacy Wagons (current car is a 2002 GT30).
I MISS MY DAIMLER! So come the new year I'll be looking for a newer Jag or Daimler. Will probably aim for a late X308 or X350, depending what grabs my fancy (and suits my budget) at the time. I've tried "liking" the S type, but the XJ just appeals more. It probably comes down to having been given a Matchbox Mk10 when I was a kid: it was always my favourite model car, I was fascinated by the way the bonnet opened!
I will probably become more active here (rather than just lurking) once I get the car. I just hope my activity isn't all of the "XXX has stopped working, is this a common problem?" variety!!
Cheers,
David

The wait is nearly over!
Affter many months of "lurking"on this forum, the wait is nearly over!
Provided nothing unforseen happens, I should be the owner of a 2006 X350 4.2 (Indigo Blue with Ivory leather) sometime in the next 3 weeks. I just can't wait to get my fix... its currently somewhere between Japan and the local dealer (or is that 'pusher').
Will post details/pictures once it arrives.

PROGRESS!
The car has arrived at the dealer and I drove it for the first time this morning. It brought out the "Jeremy Clarkson" in me (or the 3 year old boy... same thing). Just one more week until I take delivery
Details:
- 2006 X350 swb XJ8 Executive (Japanese equivalent of the Sovereign?)
- 4.2 litre engine.
- Indigo Blue with Champagne Leather (piped/ruched seats)
- 18" Tucana alloys, Pirelli P6000 tyres (tyres look almost new, hope they're not as bad as some posters have suggested)
- "Standard" stereo (not Alpine) - more scope for upgrades?
- Nav system - to be updated before delivery to New Zealand settings / maps.
- Minidisc player (plus CD changer) - I don't mind, I've still got plenty of Minidiscs I used in the Subaru.
- "Mileage" - 78000km.
Its a second-hand import from Japan (as are a large percentage of cars here in New Zealand). I'm thrilled with the condition, considering the car was basically in "raw" condition when I drove it (no tarting up / detailing done to it yet). It appears to be a very sound and honest example, the plastics look as-new and there is none of the dreaded 'milkiness' in the anodised window surrounds.
Only time will tell how much life there is left in the air suspension. The climate here in NZ is basically "temperate", as it was where the car came from in Japan, so maybe the air suspension hasn't had the cold temperature "challenges" some have written about. Fingers crossed!
I hope my wife remembers that she isn't dealing with a 49 year old adult, but with the 3 year old boy who fell in love with his Matchbox toy Jaguar.

I'm now a Jag owner..... again! (see description in earlier post, above).
I picked up "My Precious" this morning. Sorry, no photos yet, its been raining (sometimes quite heavily) most of the time since I picked it up. I know the windscreen wipers work!
The only problem so far is the sunglasses holder in the overhead console. I opened and closed it twice no problems, third time it wouldn't latch closed!!??? I've got it jammed closed with a piece of card at the moment, and have to work out how to fix the latch once its daylight and I can see what I'm doing (any suggestions?). Otherwise the car seems to be in almost mint condition.
I've read posts from people struggling to find an X350 in good condition. Apart from having to wait a bit, it seemed almost too easy thanks to Japanese used imports and a good local Dealer/Importer.

I've fixed the sunglasses holder latch:
- Removed overhead console cover
- Removed and disassembled latch.
- Reasemmbled latch.
- Superglued small crack in latch housing.
- Reassembled..... JACKPOT!
As soon as I've posted some pictures of the car here, I'll move myself over to the X350 forum.
Cheers,
David
