Default New Member cannot rev over 3000 rpm

Hi all

I have just picked up my first jaguar. It is an X type estate 54 plate, 2 ltr diesel. Took it for a test drive and was really impressed, handed ove the money with a smile on my face.

On the way home I found I cannot rev over 3000. If I do the coil light and engine management light come on and the car goes into limp mode. If I turn the engine off the engine management stays on and he coil light goes off until 3000 revs are exceeded.

Please can you offer some advice

Welcome to the forums.

Lots of things could cause your restricted performance issue.

Pull the OBD codes and let us know what they are.

Or, for some real advice, take it back where you purchased it.

Hi All

Thank you for your support, I really appreciate all of your advice.

When I have a minute I will update my profile and add a few pictures.

I will be contacting a recommended mechanic who will get the fault codes for me.

I don't think I can take the car back as it was a private sale and the receipt said sold as seen with no warranty.

As I drive the car more I have found a few extra bits that need attending to. The CV joint is knocking on the passenger side on a full lock and the rear shock on the passenger side needs replacing. (The MOT was signed off on the 11th of June 2013. Should the MOT centre have picked up on these).

The CD player, single slot, will not read a CD and struggles to eject. Can the CD part be replaced without replacing the who stereo section.

On the positive side, the more I drive the car, the more I enjoy driving it and the economy is far better when compared to my Audi 3Ltr v6 petrol.

Welcome to the forum Mark B,

When you get the codes read, make sure to get the actual codes and not just a description. Post them to the X-Type section for an explanation of possible causes.

Welcome to the forum Mark.

I believe the PCM prohibits revs over 3,000 RPM in park/neutral. I would also suggest load testing the battery as well.

Thanks
