Hey all, new member here. Just joined to learn some more about the S type. I picked up a 5 speed manual 03 s type with 75k miles. Mint condition and taken care of. I thought it was a cool find being stick, and it has the nifty multispoke 18" wheels. It needs an engine though, one of the pistons is destroyed, not sure how (was inherited and towed/diagnosed/left at the shop where I towed it from). I had a manual x type years ago and thought this would be a cool daily beater to add to the family, which includes a C6 6spd vette, 6spd 350z , 5spd xterra and 4matic E350 W211 (that this jag will be replacing). Always down to meet some local car people as well in the area so feel free to reach out. The plan is once the weather breaks to replace the engine with a used one. Also a lucky find, when I got it home and opened the trunk I found a box with all new flywheel clutch slave pressure plate and various emblems and gaskets with receipt. So all of that goodness can be replaced when the engine is out, which I am definitely happy about.
I am fairly handy with cars but I am sure the forum and member support will be much needed and very handy. Thanks for the read all!

Welcome to the forums krsone579,
Good to have you with us.
I can see you've already found your way to the S-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Midwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-midwest-39/ to find other members in your region.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums.

Hello,
I've heard that Jag engines are Interference Engines, which means, if the timing chain gets out of whack a piston or 2 hits still open valves.
If that's what happened to this engine, and if the timing chain tensioners haven't yet been replaced/adjusted in your replacement, you'll want to make that your first order of business.
I wish you success,
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Hey thanks for reply LnrB. Thats a good point about the chain/tensioners. I feel like I hear more issues than Id like too these days in regard to timing chain/tensioner issues. My E350 is unfortunately having a problem with that as well, known for the model year sadly. I havent heard any issues with these motors in regards to that though, although I havent looked much yet either. Is that a known issue or something of concern on these specifically or just in general you mean before installing? Good point regardless as I want to have less to worry about once its all done.
