New Member from Europe (XKR)
Hi!
Dear All, this is just a quick “Hallo” from a new member to this wonderful forum.
I have been reading here for a while, but decided to register only now - having to admit that I am suitably impressed by the activity, the contents, and the amazing willingness to support each other around here.
A long-term addict to British cars (see signature…), I returned to Jag deciding to take the risk to acquire a fairly “old” Jaguar for the first time. I had left Jag because I could not adjust to the F-Type, after the XK line had been discontinued, and spent seven happy years with a Porsche 991 Turbo convertible. Technically, a brilliant car, but no comparison with the Jags in terms of style and comfort… so I am back, only to realize that I had apparently even registered before (in 2009) but did not become an active member.
I will share a few pics of the new old XKR soon. At the moment, my job keeps me just too busy but I will do so when time will allow. Ah, my job… just a brief note on this. After I had spent 15 years in managerial roles in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, and the States, I accepted an unexpected offer to become a university professor in Germany. However, my expectation that this role would allow me to slow down a bit has not really materialized yet, but I hope for better times in terms of “work/life balance” in the future. The new old XKR should help…
For now, I am looking forward to joining this great community, and, needless to say, hope not to face too many issues with my newly acquired Jag. More on this to follow…
Best,
Hans

Dear All,
I might add: Since selling the Porsche, I was literally restless, looking for an XKR in good shape. Found one with one prior owner only, imported from Switzerland with 43,000km on the odometer, which seem credible given the excellent condition and the prior ownership. Of course, first thing after picking it up were battery issues (car computer down…) so I will take it to my local dealership for a thorough check and a battery replacement.
There are two things, which I noted: it seems very soft (almost imprecise) on German highways. Not sure whether this is simply the (expected) difference compared to the 911, but I recall my prior XKRs to have been more precise in terms of handling. Second, as I won’t use it as a DD all year, are there any reasonable alternatives to a CTEK device? At my downtown parking lot I do not have access to electric power supply…
I am confident these will turn out to be minor issues and I am looking forward to a long time with the new old Jag.
:-)

Welcome to the forums Hans,
Good to have you with us.
A CTEK is really essential for any recent or current model Jaguar as they are so sensitive to battery state of charge. Is the parking location suitable for use of a solar charger?
It sounds like you've already found your way to the X150 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the Europe Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/europe-42/ to find other members in your region.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums.

Many thanks indeed for the warm welcome.
The new old cat will go for an initial check-up tomorrow. I will report…
Meanwhile, irrespective of any potential findings, I have to say that the feel of driving the XKR supersedes any technical perfection of the 991. It gives the impression of more than enough power without effort, and does not always trigger you to go fast. The Porsche was exactly the opposite, certainly an excellent car that served me extremely well over seven years, but always seemed to ask: why don’t you go faster? (With the obvious answer being: I don’t want to find myself in prison…)
In my view, after 40 years driving without having caused an accident, and after two prior X150 convertibles, I have to admit that this is one of the very best cars I am aware of. Sure enough, this is a subjective statement. In sum: happy to be here (again).
Best,
H.A.

Welcome to the forums Hans, Having lived in Germany for two years back in the 60's and wearing green thanks to Uncle Sam, I soon learned that driving there was definitely very different from driving in the States. Very narrow cobblestone streets to driving on the Autobahn. Ah...the Autobahn, you haven't really lived till you have driven on the Autobahn in an old VW beetle to an Army deuce and a half truck. Realy fond memories.
