as this forum has already been of tremendous value to me I decided to finally join. Hopefully I can give back something of benefit for other X308 owners as well.
I am 28 years old and live in the south east parts of Austria. Almost two years ago I bought a 1998 XJR which serves as my daily driver ever since. Despite having made a ton of unnecessary upgrades and improvements already (kind of a hobby for me) the car portrays itself to be shockingly reliable thus far. Even after driving 20.000km (10 thousand a year), summer and winter driving, frequent short city trips and occasional long dinstant trips for vacation, absolutely everything works as it should. The vehicle is beyond enjoyable in my very personal opinion.
The car in question is a 1998 Jaguar XJR X308 in British Racing Green / Warm Charcoal with (now) around 145.000km on the clock.
The list of things Ive already done to the car is quite extensive but here is a little overview:
- All fluids changed (engine, supercharger, coolant, steering & transmission and differential oil)
- All timing chain tensioners and gaskets along the way
- Thermostat, expansion tank, temp sensor and the tachometer upgrade for accurate coolant temperature
- New steering rack, starter motor and false bulkhead connector
- New shocks (CATS), springs, bushings, new brakes (+ bigger front rotor upgrade), new rear subframe with PU bushings
- 18" Penta rims on winter tires, 18" Flute rims on summer tires
- HID headlights and full LED conversion on the interior
- Illuminated side markers (not standard on EU models) and customs side indicator relais that the side markers "blink" as well
- Black alcantara roof liner (including ABC pillars) and new speakers
- Footwell lighting front and rear
I am looking forward to participating in this forum.

Welcome to the forums Oliver,
You've done it now. The Prince of Darkness will have his revenge.
As you have already used the X308 forum, there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the Europe Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/europe-42/ to find other members in your region.
If you haven't done so already you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

Hello, Oliver,
That's a Very nice looking Jag! It obviously likes you, as dependable as it has been for you. I hope that continues.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

thank you very much for the warm welcome - much appreciated.
I do think so too that with proper care one can enjoy these vehicles quite hassle free. As long as one is willing to invest some time learning about them to prevent headache.
Good point Graham I'll face him head on - he will stand no chance against my iron will to keep the XJR running
As Grant wrote in post #7, too often the problems are caused through maintenance and repair failures by a previous owner. When the vehicle is properly maintained, reliability follows.
Hello Oliver, a very nice car, same beautiful color as mine.
I see you've done a lot of work on the car. Did you do it by yourself or do you have a mechanic? I am from Slovenia and I am having trouble finding a Jag specialized workshop in the area to change the timing chains and tensioners. Maybe there is somebody in Austria you can recommend?
Best regards,
Jure
Hi Jure,
thank you - it indeed is a great vehicle. Congratulations on yours.
I have done almost all work by myself but there is a great guy in Vienna who specializes on everything related X308. Should you be interested, I’ll pass along all contact info.
Cheers, Oliver
Thank you, Oliver, I will see how my quest for the mechanic goes and I'll contact you after that. I wish I had the opportunity to work on the car by myself, maybe in a few years :-)
