Greetings all! I am seriously looking at a 1997 XK8 convertible with 70K miles on her and know nothing about Jaguars except by reputation, some good and some not so good. Hence I decided that I had better start educating myself!
I am a 77 year old, relaxed, retired airline pilot living the good life in Cheyenne, WY, with my wife of 44 years, possible only because neither of us takes ourselves too seriously! My wife has a thing for white, convertible sportscars and I figure that she has earned a shot at it at her age. Don't want to rush into things in our mid-seventies! I earnestly solicit any advice from members of the panel as I have not yet made a commitment on this vehicle, which is owned by an 82 year old Jaguar enthusiast. Give me the good, the bad and the ugly! While the car will not be our primary transportation, but a special occasions vehicle, it will be driven often enough to keep it in good shape. Thank you! George

Welcome to the forums George,
Good to have you with us.
Look for posts the three regular issues with this model:
1. tensioners (plastic)
2. cooling
3. transmission
It's more a case of needing to be aware of these rather be put off by them.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Central Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-central-36/ to find other members in your region.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums.
