Default New member here, hello!

Hello everyone! My name is Fran and I’m new to the Jaguar world. I have been an American muscle car enthusiast my entire life. I have recently been given the opportunity to purchase a 2009 Jaguar XKR convertible from my brother in law. He bought the car new in 2009 and I have always loved it. I made him promise to give me first crack at it if he ever decided to sell it. Well, that day is finally here! The car is a 2009, has 37,000 original miles, automatic transmission, etc. I feel fortunate to call my brother in law a friend as well as family. He recently purchased a 2017 Mercedes Benz S63 Convertible - gorgeous car. He handed me the keys to the Jaguar and told me to give him what I feel the car is worth. The car has 37,000 miles on it and is in nice condition. There are between 6 and 10 parking lot dents down the sides of the car, typical chips on the nose, etc. The tires are in good condition, though the wheels have excessive curb rash and damaged paint. The interior is really nice and only needs a good detail. Mechanically, the car runs great, doesn't leak anything and sounds great. The convertible top is in really nice shape and only shows signs of wear on the areas where it folds when it goes down. I don't want to offend him in any way and have no idea what to offer him. He recently ordered a Maserati SUV and awaiting delivery. He told me if I decide not to buy the car from him, he'll trade it in. Can anyone advise me as to what a fair price to offer him is? I look forward to being a member and look forward to all of the knowledge this site's members have to offer!

Thanks,
Fran

Fran,

I would pay a visit to the Maserati dealership where your brother-in-law ordered his new SUV and find out what they would allow as a trade-in figure and have them put it in writing. Offer him the same amount, or add a few hundred bucks if you're feeling generous. You'll have the advantage of purchasing the Jaguar for wholesale or close to wholesale, and he'll know that he's getting the same offer, or a little better, than if he traded it in to them. Win/win!
