Hello Everyone,

I'm a new member looking to purchase an XKR or XF.

Here's my predicament:

I live overseas and am retiring in 2016. I fell in lust with a Lotus Elise and purchased one in the States, driving it once a year when back there on vacation. My wife won't even drive it, as it scares her, and so is after me to purchase something for her. She probably doesn't like the size of the Elise in traffic (she had no problem with a Vette we had).

I showed her the XKR and XF saloon (more practicality), both of which she liked. I even took her to the Jaguar opening in Dallas for the new models.

The problem is that she likes Minis, but I cannot see buying a new one when a 2011 XKR (or thereabouts) is many times the car but not the price, in the 2-4 year old range or so. The other problem is that I spoke to a sales rep, and her opinion is that the XKR's technology doesn't really compare to the other models due to the lack of factory development.

Anyway, I don't mean to ramble, but to provide information. If I decide on an XF, daily livability is not at issue. With an XKR, I'm not so sure, especially as my other car is the Elise. So it's looks vs. performance vs. daily livability between the XKR and XF.

Advice from owners of both are much appreciated!

Stephen.

PS: I've always loved the S1 E-Type, and plan on restoring one in "retirement." So one way or another, I'll have a Jaguar.

Welcome to the forum Stephen,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Follow Norri's link in post #3 to the XK/XKR forum for help, advice and information. Your wife's car - your wife's choice. I think she'll go for the XF.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Default Welcome to Jaguar Forums

Welcome Stephen ... and greetings from Australia.

Great advice from Norri and Graham to get you more familiar with all the excellent resources around this friendly forum. The XK8 and XF are both great drives; but after more than 35 years courtship with our S1 4.2L E-Type ... both Chris and I know who (you or your wife) will be having all the fun.

So, my advice? Leave the decision about your wife's car entirely up to her. With a Series1 E-Type to enjoy, the rest of life has a way of looking after itself. I keep finding brilliant Jaguars for my wife, and she clings to her bright yellow Honda rocket even more tenaciously ... and she is a devoted Jaguar/Daimler fan.

Anyway Stephen, it's great to have you join us and we hope your experience with us will help enhance your enjoyment.
Best wishes,
Ken
