Joined this Spring but didn't get around to the intro until now. I owned 2 E-Types in the early 70's and I missed the convertible I had but not the 2+2.
I've been looking for an XK8/R for a year or so because it reminds me of the E-Types and one popped up in April 30 miles away on cargurus.com at a local used car dealer of all places. I went and looked at it and it was a Phoenix Red 2002 XKR convertible with only 39,411 miles on it. I couldn't pass it up. I did a lot of research before and since. I am planning on checking the upper timing chain tensioners very soon as per the engine serial number I am 2 months shy of the August 13 2001 aluminum tensioner cutoff date. The engine is extremely quiet. Already fixed the inside rear view mirror mounting as the ball fingers were almost all broken off. I already don't like the useless nav system. I have a slight vibration in the front at highway speeds and just today figured out the 2 wider back wheels are on the left side of the car and the narrower front wheels are on the right side. No wonder it pulls the the right. Wasn't expecting that as all 4 tires are the same size. Also considering changing the suspension bushings and shock mounts. The previous owner had the convertible top hydraulic lines replaced and the engine ECU was also replaced. I'm sure there are more surprises in store. Let the fun begin!

Welcome to the forums Bob,
Good to have you with us.
It sounds like you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Midwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-midwest-39/ to find other members in your region.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums.
Graham
