My first car, purchased in 1966, was a 1960 XK150S convertible which I actually purchased twice over a period of years. As a perennially impecunious teenager I could never afford to fill it up much less keep it fixed up. I loved that car and sadly let it slip away, twice, to someone better equipped to give it the attention it deserved. Fast forward to retirement years. I finally bought, after years of deferral, a really nice, well-kept, Jaguar XJS convertible. Unmolested-other-than-an-aftermarket-6CD-changer, this one is white with wire wheels. It had long been maintained by a Santa Cruz shop specializing in Jaguars and is the nearly pristine example of the model I have been admiring for decades. The car is an occasional driver, continuing its pampered life, covered in the garage. I have had it about six years and it still has fewer than 80K miles. Allegedly I am the third owner. I have had the car to shops in Sacramento, Stockton and Lodi over the years for a problem with unwanted acceleration. More accurately, a computer problem that prevents the engine from decelerating and linked to dead battery event which causes a memory loss somewhere in the electronic brains.
Everytime I have to smog it or license the vehicle I realize this Jag is a vanity item and my attempted denial of the aging process. I should let it slip away to someone who would also love to own an iconic piece of the Jaguar legacy. Then I look at the car and my admiration for Pininfarina design sense makes me covetous all over again. I am registering here as I have had some issues over the years and would like access to better, more mechanically inclined minds. Fortunately AAA has a towing policy that is generous but I would prefer to keep out of the shop. Basically I have two issues that recur and hope to obtain some advice through searching the forums. In lieu of that I will post a request for help. A thanks and tip of the hat to all the generous people who contribute to these forums with good advice. I used to think free advice was worth every penny but have come to admire the philanthropic nature of a large segment of the online community.
All that said, what is up with Jaguar being owned by Tata motors? Last week I was in London and stopped by the Aston Martin showroom near Buckingham Palace. (Dreaming is another form of denial.) In a country rich with motoring tradition (Bentley, Rolls, Lotus, MG, Triumph and more) it was good to learn James Bonds' preferred ride is still made in England and English owned. Oddly both Aston Martin and Jaguar were owned by Ford and both spun off, no doubt for some short term profit. Apparently Jag and Land Rover are still made in England as well but no longer English owned. Hang on to real history, boys! The corporations just keep making new history all the time.

Hello, Oliver,
Many of us here will completely understand Jag Vanity.
Mine is my most important Fashion Accessory! I *Drive* my Jaguar and enjoy every second; I do Not treat it as if it was made of glass!
All Jaguar owners need AAA towing; Nix is on first name basis with our local flat bed driver. That's all part of the fun and adventure!
Someone will be along shortly to direct you to our XJS section where our resident experts can help you with whatever you need.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
