New member in London
Hi all,
I have acquired a Mk2 3.8 jointly with my step-son Steve who is currently touring with the Monster Truck team in the UK as their chief mechanic. So repairs are down to me (very much the amateur and OAP with aching limbs) at present and I am struggling with a broken top bearing between the inner steering column and the tube. Norman Motors want to sell me a 'NYLON' replacement but the book says it should be felt. I am getting the felt from SNG Barratts BUT does anyone know if it can be safely fitted through the slot in the outer column or do I have to dismatle the whole unit to do this job? The handbook is unclear on this. Also, the previous bearing seemed to be made of some bakerlite-like material and had fragmented. Is there a chance the missing broken fragments could be lodged internally and so disturb the free movement of the unit?
As I am introducing myself, I should add I am also restoring an XK120 OTS and (though with no progress in the last five years) a Mk VII M.
Very happy to meet up at ACE which is only 10 mins away for me on a good A406 day.
Ulf

Welcome to the forum Ulf,
You've got great Jaguars but also some challenges in the garage.
Follow this link MKI / MKII S type 240 340 & Daimler - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the MKI/II section for help and advice. You'll find others there doing similar restorations and they should have the information.
Also, please visit the UK Regional section to find members and events in this country:

I'm sure a few will have made it to the Ace Cafe or be thinking of a visit for the monthly meet.
