New member, long time owner
So I have already posted in the XJ40 forum, this is my "intro" post.
I have had a 1988 XJ6 since around 1995 or so. I fell in love with the car when I saw it, and knew I wasn't going to buy anything else on the lot.
My kids grew up with the car, They went to Disney in it, got dropped off at school in it, went to the park in it. It's got a lot of sentimental value to our family.
Unfortunately we went through a period where finances allowed the car to fall into serious disrepair, and it has sat for a few years, nto driven, not touched and lacking the love it deserved.
This is changing.
I bought a donor car, a beautiful immculat4e show quality car that had the extreme misfortune of being wrecked by an idiot at a car wash. The attendant lost control of the car and slammed it into the wall.
Fortunately for me, I got a great deal on it and a plethora of brand new mint condition parts. Currently my son and I are deep into restoring this beauty and giving it a new life.
I'm not doing a stock restoration, I'm doing a custom resto-mod. I know some people think this is an atrocious thing to do, but the exterior is going to be MOSTLY stock. As is the interior.
A more practical Corvette LT1 engine is going in the car, easier to maintain and far less expensive.
Anyway, this is me saying hi and I'm looking forward to chatting with other Jaguar fans!!

When I read the part about the attendant crashing that car into a wall I was Stunned! I can only imagine what that was like for the other owner.
However. As you say, this is your good fortune. You and your son will have Many hours/days/weeks etc of enjoyment and bonding over Jaguar parts in the time to come.
My car was Resto/Modded in 1986; given a Chevy 350/700R4 and a Very nice BLACK paint job. Had that not been the case she would never have come to live under this roof. I understand Chevys, having grown up with them, and all the other parts would be a new adventure with Any car.
There are Purists about, but as your car was never a V12 you probably won't encounter them anyway. As Grant says, it's YOUR car, and you have the Right to do whatever YOU want to do with it.

Welcome to the forum Steve,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
I can see you've already found your way to the XJ40 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Western Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/western-us-ak-ca-nv-ut-hi-wa-id-38/ to find other members in your region.
Good luck with the project and enjoy the forums.

thanks guys, looking forward to a long stay.
My next project is something I have been looking at for quite awhile, and it's going ot be a major one after I finish this car.
I found a kit, a replica of the incredibly rare xj13. It's such a cool looking kit I just will not be able to resist for much longer
