I've been hanging out on the "other Jag Forum" for quite some time. As I begin to finish, and finish may not be the right word as nothing ever seems finished, my current project I know I'll need all the help I can get.
I purchased a 77XJ12L in California in 1999 and drove it home. The intention has always been to install a Big Block Chevy. Sold the first BBC, and drove the 12 for a while. Love to leave T400's in low and let them shift to second on their own. It's the only way I could bark the tires. Jumped the chain on the jack shaft, and let it sit for 8-9 years. Move the distributor a tooth and it fired. Retired two years ago. One evening after drinking two Mountain Dew's and a friend's house, I asked him what he was going to do with the BBC he had just pulled from a '71 Monte Carlo SS454. He said "it's going in the corner". I said "I'll take it, how much?"
Over the last two years, I've taken the engine compartment to bare medal and back out to fresh paint, rebuilt the 454, dyno'd at 485HP and 530ft/lb, and installed the same. Transmission is a 700R4 beef to nearly the max. Transmission went in with the engine. A fresh 3.54 posi is waiting the same treatment in the rear section.
As I tell the kids - Dont' just stand there, do something, even if it is wrong!
