New member old jag lover
Hello everyone I just joined and just recently I found out my wife loves jags as I do. Because of this we are going to buy one. The one we both like is the xj6 1985 sovereign. Now I have read a few things about this vehicle online and not all good. So I thought I would ask on here what the members thought of this model, any feedback would be much appreciated as I have never owned a jag. Cheers Wayne and Margi.

Hey there Wayne / Margi. Welcome to the madhouse.
I have had some experience with older as well as newer XJ6's.
I suppose one stand-out feature between the two is the lack of electric goodies.
Series II and III XJ saloons had electric locks / windows, but I can't recall any that had electric seats / sunshine roofs / etc. Perhaps that was the UK spec - maybe US cars had these options.
Either way later XJ's have more creature comforts and way more complex running gear.
I know exactly how you both feel - that shape is arguably the loveliest that Jaguar ever produced, yet they still went ahead and made the XJ40 with all those squared-off lines!
Beware of the dreaded Lucas electrics. So many UK cars had regular electrical issues because of the Lord of Darkness - Lucas! Again, maybe US spec cars were different.
Enjoy your purchase - the guys on here will steer you right and keep you right.

Welcome. The car that suckered me in was a series 3 xj, but I found my Roger in the back row of a dealer lot and there was just No question. Roger has been Mostly trouble free, and has Never stranded me. The Moneyfunnel however is Aptly named and continues to put up a fight at being used. I has its issues and it's excuses. And so it keeps funneling money. I think if you're careful and take your time you can get a good one no matter what you are looking for. Have you checked the classifieds on this forum yet? Good luck.
