Hi Everyone,

I don't have a newer Jaguar but I am thinking about getting one in the future. I do have an older Jaguar (a '69 Etype FHC) which was given to me by my father about 6 months ago right before he sadly passed away. I grew up around Jags and my father had seven (XK-140, E types ('61,'69',73), XJS, S type, X type) before he started giving them away before he passed. He bought the '69 when I was in high school in 1986 so it's been in the family for a while and has some sentimental value to me.

My E type is a bit scruffy and has a long list of issues which need to be addressed but I hope to get it fully restored over the next few years.

Previously, I did quite a bit of track and autocross with my Mazda Rx-8 but I'm currently putting my track money towards the Jag maintenance/restoration.

I'm in the Chicago area and hope to meet some other local Jag enthusiasts. I'm also a member of the JCNA and will also be trying to make some of the Illinois and Wisconsin club events next year.
Look forward to being a part of this community.

Below is a picture of my Jag from the Illinois concours a few week ago.

Thanks.
Here are some more pictures. It had a super long antenna but I replaced it with a shorter one.

I also think the engine is a work of art.

and I like the classic interior

with the wood steering wheel and view down the bonnet.

Another Matt! Welcome!

Love the old jag, what kind of issues would something like that specimen have? I assume the rest of the jag fleet went to other family members?

Like any 40 year old car, you could easily pump $20K into the thing to make it perfect as it needs new paint and just about everything rubber on the car including joints and seals.

For starters, it doesn't start right now (without a push or a hill). I plan to remove the Lucas starter this weekend and have it rebuilt. Hope to have it back on the road by the following weekend as there is brunch meet with my local european car club.

Also, the transmission leaks fluid. This could be minor, could be serious. I haven't had the courage to fully investigate it. The car has a newer (about 5 years old) 5 speed transmission. I also have the original transmission.

There is also some rust under the floor mats, battery tray and possible one of the sills.

Also some play in the steering wheel. Could be a steering mount, could need a new steering rack.

Probably also needs new ball joints.

I think it leaks brake fluid.

Horn and radio don't work.

A/C doesn't work.

Needs a new headliner, could use some new interior pieces.

Once I fix some of the other stuff, I'd think about a new paintjob and fix some door dings.

On the plus side, a lot of those things don't need to be addressed right away. The body/paint is in pretty good shape and the rust I mentioned is pretty typical and can be fixed. The engine seems to run okay and doesn't burn much oil. I recently added new tires, new battery and new (rebuilt) alternator so I shouldn't have to worry about that anytime soon. I also replaced the apolstery on the armrest. Also on the plus side, parts are readily available over the internet.

Of the other cars, the XK140 (roadster) was sold to a good home (that car didn't have much sentimental value since my father only had it for a few years). The '61 XKE OTS went to my brother (this is a fully restored (100 point concours/trailer queen), outside bonnet locker/flat floor E type that is very collectable). The '73 XKE OTS went to my sister. My mom uses the X-type and S type as daily drivers but will sell the S type to my brother (it is a 2000 model with over 160K+ miles). The XJS V12 is still sitting in her garage and will be sold for 3-4K if possible.

Here are some pics of the sold XK-140 and '61 OTS. Both BRG Also a pic of the '73 XKE.

My father used to say (not sure if it was his original quote or he borrowed it from someone else.)

"My hobby is collecting Jaguars, my wife's hobby is complaining about them."
