Hi All,

Newbie looking to learn more about maintaining car and doing most of my own work. Wife bought new car so she gave me this car to drive. Loved the performance until a few days ago! I consider myself a journeyman mechanic. Looking for how-tos starting with possibly changing spark plugs and coils. Engine with 72K miles is misfiring, engine light is on, and getting performance limited message... getting engine codes P0300, P0308, P1314, P1316, and P0436 on my wireless ELM327 scanner. Thanks...

Thanks for the welcome. Using some of the info in the forums and a OBDII wireless scanner with iphone app (Dashboard). I determined that the #8 cylinder and coil were the problem with much oil in the spark plug well...I have a future gasket replacement job coming up. I replaced the spark plug and coil and used a generous amount of dielectric grease to slow down the oil coming back...All the engine trouble codes cleared up except for the monitoring ones...Thanks...

Phil,

Good result.

The cam cover gaskets and plug seals are an issue on all the V8's but an easy fix.
