New Member from the Pacific North West.
Good evening from the Pacific North West. I live on an island in the middle of the Columbia river betweeen Washington and Oregon.
New member here. I am a retired Ship Master and my wife has gotten me into a few vehicles, mostly Mercedes but due to a death in the family I just traveled to San Francisco and picked up a 1997 XK8 convertible.
The car had been sitting for four years and was the project of my brother-in-law. It is actually a nice car and I am looking forward to restoring it to good to excellent condition. It was not running when I loaded it on my trailer but I got it running today, the plastic crossover pipe is cracked, I ordered a new one and JB welded the old one so I could work on it. Power Steering pump was about out of fluid so I filled it and the steering works fine, but power steering fluid does not just evaporate so I probably have a bit of work there. I got the top to go down, need to replace the canvas but it is in good working order. Otherwise the car is in good shape, 120K miles, a bit of mildew inside and on the top, and it seems to be missing on acceleration. But I like the car, I am just finishing up a 2003 SL500 which was clean but had a lot of problems. Nice car though. I look forward to learning this car and hope to find a lot of good info and input on this forum.
