New member says hello
I want to introduce myself. My wife and I have long been British car fans, having owned a 53 MG TD, a 79 MGB and a 91 Sterling SLi in the 80's and 90's. (We even named our Welsh Srpinger Spaniel "Morgan" for the one we didn't buy.)
We recently decided that life had become boring and decided to return to our early-middle-age and pick up a Jaguar. After a fair amount of online exploration of XK8 convertibles and first-hand examination of other examples in the Northeast, we thought we knew what we were doing and bought a Florida car at a fair price on e-Bay.
Well, life is not boring anymore.
First, I am still waiting for the title and will call the Florida DMV folks tomorrow to intercede now that the Florida-maximum 30 day time requirement for title transfer has passed.
Second, although I can't license the car or drive it anywhere, I have been checking it out in my garage and have replaced a few trim items and the driver's seat switch. But while the engine was idling the other day, the (I am assuming) dread timing chain tensioner clatter sounded its raucous warning.
When and if we receive the title, the car's first trip will be a tow to Gas Menagerie in Troy NY to have the engine addressed by an independent Jaguar specialist. (Of course, before I purchased the car I had asked the seller whether the tensioners had been addressed and he said that they had.)
This is all affirmation of caveat emptor, but if the engine isn't wrecked and I don't get any other bad news, I am still looking forward to enjoying our XK8 once it is actually running and legal! (Details, details...)
Glad to have the forums available.
