New member - thinking of restoring my 1997 xk8
I bought a 1997 xk8 convertible on Ebay about 10 years ago for $25,000 - have driven it about 40,000 miles since then so it is now up to 83,000 miles.
I'm 60 and love the thing. The motor and transmission seem good but the rest of it is showing its age.
Everything on this car is wearing out now and so my reason for joining this forum is this...
I am thinking of restoring this car and keeping it for the rest of my life. I'm sure that my 3 yr old son would love to have it when he gets out of college or my 30 year old son would like it when he is my age. Either way my bigger question is... is it worth the 10,000 or 15,000 I think I will have to spend to fix all the worn out pieces (maybe more) or should I just junk it, and buy another convertible. Any suggestions or advice. I guess my hope is that some day it may be worth $50,000 or $75,000 in another 30 years.

Welcome to the forum kctruby,
Good to have you here with us at Jaguar Forums.
The big thing in favour of this is you have the history of the vehicle going back ten years and service history counts for a lot with any Jaguar. Against it is you probably could pick up a good '97 for a similar amount to the proposed spend.
With the long term view of keeping for thirty years or more, values should certainly keep rising for the remaining good examples.
I'd suggest you start a thread in XK8/XKR forum with as much detail on condition as possible to get advice on expected costs etc.
Follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Southwest Region forum by following this link Southwest US - AZ TX NM OK - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.
