Hey guys, I've been floating around these forums for a bit now and I've made multiple posts as I try and manage my recent purchase of a used jaguar. However it's occurred to me that I will be very active on here, being that my jaguar likes to produce issues and this forums is extremely friendly and helpful. Allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Andrew, I'm a 19 year old from the USA. Been into car's most of my life but not good with working on them, just kinda know what's what ya know. Recently picked up a 2003 Jaguar X-type 3.0 awd, car is an automatic and has only 126k on the clock. Picked the thing up off a used car dealer for 2.8k. Car seemed like a really fair price for the issues we noticed on it. Calculating the expenses needed we went through with the purchase. Let's just say within the first week I've found out a whole lot of things that weren't pleasant. Car has the notorious rocker rust. In my case the inner rocker is pretty much gone while the outer is still not to bad towards the back doors. That's something I'll need to figure out over time since the expense will not be small. Car ran like a dream and fun to be in. Besides the rust the car has developed multiple other issues that are being fixed, pending diagnosis, and not to big of a deal (hopefully).

- Car got the infamous flashing CEL which shortly after was causes by a faulty ignition coil on cylinder 4, cat took some damage as well sadly. Recently got in 6 ngk v-power plugs, 6 new coils, and new upper and low intake gaskets. So that should be no longer an issue shortly.

- Car developed a bit of a jerk in the trans when going from D to R ether way. P does not cause any jerking. Also at times jerks when shifting but is fairly subtle. I figured I would give the thing new trans fluid and toss in some lucas trans fluid additive. Hopefully that fixes the issue if not then I'm worried.

- The radio only has one working speaker which is the driver side one, from what I understand that's the radio needing a certain code to fully function. The one driver side speaker is done as courtesy so you still have music. May be going aftermarket for aux/usb connections so that could bypass the issue hopefully.

- Third brake light is out, probably just a bulb tho.

- Headlight adjustments broke so not the best at night anymore. Ordered a kit to repair that.

- Hesitation under medium-ish to heavier acceleration. This only happened twice during the over 1 week and easily over 50 miles of ownership. It kinda felt like maybe the trans shifting weird but have recently found out that may be associated with a vacuum leek on the intake somewhere. Pending diagnosis.

- Power steering can be heavier then you might think at lower speeds, and will make a higher pitch noise during low speed turns. Car has power steering fluid so that may be a bad rack or something. Not the most annoying issue so.

- Car has some shake in the wheel during higher highway speeds and even more during braking. That from what I understand can be connected to lack of wheels balance, or the back the the car doesn't really have any sort of alignment currently.

- Car has a very slight oil leak which from what I recently learned can be easily assumed to be from the oil pan gaskets as it is a common issue.

- Has that seat rocking issue which I've found out is related to older power seat motors allowing play. At some point have to take the seat out of the car and see which motor needs to be replaced.

- X-types like many cars have 3 separate hood latches, the pair that release from the interior level and the safety one behind the grill. Well one of the pair has gone out and doesn't latch. Haven't been about to really pinpoint the issue so may just try buying a new latch for that one side.

That I believe is it, the car definitely isn't perfect by any means and has it's fair share of problems. However I quickly fell in love with the vehicle and look forward to moving past these issues and fully enjoying my jaguar. I also look forward to spending more time on this forum to help me manage this new purchase of mine.

Thanks for reading!

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. That IS an Intro.

I can see you've already found your way to the X-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
