Question New member from Victoria BC Canada

Good day everyone, I'm a newbie. My jag is a '98 XJ8. The motor is the 4 litre gas. It now has 110,000 kms on it. I've been lucky enough to have owned it for 3 years, there was 89,000 kms on it. No major problems yet.
I've had the timing chain tensioners done when I first got it. Just lately the idler pulley disintegrated and the belt of course came off. Engine overheated somewhat.
Replaced the pulley and belt. Now have check engine light on as well as restricted performance message on. Anybody have a similar problem? Or perhaps any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your time.

Just a follow up, I have a code reader, there were a few codes came up but, the predominant one was 308 Which I believe meant a faulty cylinder # 8. it was a dirty spark plug. The area around the plug was full of oil. So before I pulled the plug I cleaned that up. Cleaned the plug, checked gap, reinstalled and now works fine. This forum is a great place for info, thank you all.

Dennis,

If you continue getting oil building up in the plug holes then it's time to look at changing the camshaft cover gasket set. This includes the O rings that prevent oil leaking into the plug holes.
