Default New member XKR 99 that needs bodywork

Hello everyone - just joined the "club" after having bought an XKR 99 from a relative and first owner. It has only 30.000 miles on the odometer (48.000 km.) and has lived its live in a sheltered garage. Still it has corrosion issues (well - that was probably why I could afford it - so who am I to complain). Hopefully a picture will follow this message so you can have a look at my precious.

Any hints on a good place to fix this corrosion issues? Needs new wheel arches welded in ++. I have written to Alan Proctor that are doing the bodyworks for David Marks and are in a dialogue with them, but I am open for other suggestions. Price and quality are the matters - as I want my money to "stretch" as far as possible. Kind regards. Jan

Welcome to this friendly Forum, Jan.
Bodywork is a pain, you could try posting on the 'Europe' section here about body shops in your area.
For technical stuff your section is here

Welcome to the forum Jan,

Follow Steve's link to the XK8/XKR section for help and advice.

If you particularly want to bring the XKR over to the UK for bodywork, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone better than David Marks recommendation. However, it's worth posting some detailed pictures of the corrosion on the XK8/XKR section to get advice from members.

Please also visit the Europe Region section Europe - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum for other members and events in mainland Europe.

Enjoy the forum.

Graham

Welcome aboard. I have an 04 twin with 43000 mi on odometer and NO corrosian. Hard to believe that you would have corrosian with such low milage unless the car was based on the seashore or operated in a hi salt useage area and driven in the winter.

Unfortunately it is true. It has been driven in winter (though seldom). Jaguar Norway claims that all XK´s of the same age is more or less rusty. The car has followed all services intervals at Jag Norway, and they never indicated that the former owner had a growing problem - I think this neglect is unbelievable. I own an X-type too with the same history. I Just had it fixed for some rust that could have benn nasty in a couple of years - even though Jag Norway claimed it was rust free just three weeks ago. What´s the help in 12 layers of paint when the electroplating is so poor? I have asked for a meeting with the manager ten days ago. So far he has´nt responded. Not impressive!
