Default New Memeber in Columbus, OH

Hello, everyone!

I recently purchased a neglected '04 XJ8. She's a beautiful car and is fun to drive, but her neglect has started to frustrate me. So far I've had to replace the fuel pump and filter, the washer fluid pump motor, rear rotors and pads, crank shaft seal, valve body and rebuilt the transmission. Sadly, that doesn't address all her issues. Below I will list the few things I'm interested in. Please direct me as needed. Thank you! ^-^
  • transmission shifts hard on 2nd gear both up and down - mechanic suggested the mechatronic (sp?) and a visit to a dealership
  • oil leak around what looks like senors on the top, front of the engine - pictures can be provided, would like to know the proper name (bonus points for part number and replacement guide) never mind, figured this one out
  • replacing the spark plugs - I've done this on my Tacoma but am little nervous attempting it on my Jag

Hello, Lesh,
Changing spark plugs isn't much different on a Jag than a Tacoma or any other engine. It's nothing to be nervous about.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Lesh4537,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

A dealership would not be my first choice with a harsh transmission shift issue. Do some reading and ask questions in the X350 forum before splashing the cash.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-x350-x358-28/ to the X350 forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-midwest-39/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hello, Elino!

I'm more nervous because of the neglect of the car and I don't know if the spark plugs have ever been changed. I've heard of ignition coils falls apart during this process when a vehicle isn't properly cared for. Another concern is it looks a little tight on the right side of the engine bay and there is sometime over the left side but I'm not sure what it is. I would be more confident knowing what it was; I like knowing the name of things before I break them.

Thank you, Graham!

I had it at a transmission shop for over a week but couldn't resolve the issue. Luckily, they didn't charge me a penny even through they replaced gears, clutches and the valve body. I'll see what I can find on the X350 forum. Thanks!
