Hello all!
My name is Scott Sutorka. My wife, Susan, and I just purchased a 1985 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas. It was a car that was originally traded in under the "Cash for Clunkers" program at my dealership - Howard Cooper Import Center. Unfortunately (fortunately for me), the car did not qualify as the previous owner had let the registration lapse for a week a few months ago - against the rules. Technically, even though he had owned the car for over 15 years, that lapse in time did not prove that he owned it for a continuous year. Anyway, that mishap worked out for me.
I saw the car and fell in love. I've always wanted a Jaguar, and said that I would own one by the age of 30. I turned 30 in June, with no Jag... and although it is not new liked I had planned, I own one!
The previous owner had, within 100 miles of him trading it in, done the following: rebuilt and replaced engine and transmission, new coils, new water pump and timing chain (?), among many other things. After mistakenly putting gas in the right fuel tank, I realized that there was a leak. I called the previous owner and he told me that the right fuel tank hadn't been used in years (fortunately, I only put 2 gallons in!) and that the car needed a y-pipe. Otherwise, everything mechanical is perfect.
So, here we are - proud owners of a Jaguar, willing to learn a lot. I sell cars, and know a lot about them, but don't know how to work on them. What better car to learn on than one of those difficult British monsters!!
A little about us...
We live in Royal Oak, Michigan, but both work in Ann Arbor. I sell Audi, Volkswagen, and Porsche automobiles at Howard Cooper Import Center, and she works for the University of Michigan. We've been married for 5 years.
Our goal for this car is to have the right fuel tank replaced, and the y-pipe replaced so we can drive it. We won't use the car as a daily driver, but plan on restoring it as a long-term project.
I apologize for the long-windedness, but we are very excited about this venture we're about to take!! Thanks!!![Icon Cool](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

Thanks for the welcomes, everyone! I apologize for not responding sooner, but I've been way busy at work (actually selling cars!) and just got home from a trip my wife and I took for our 5th anniversary. Now it's back to normal, once again!
I will for sure post pictures as things progress. The goal is to get him running right and then work on cosmetic stuff. We did name the car - it's a boy, Parker!! (My favorite bowler is Parker Bohn III, and instead of naming a kid Parker, Susan let me name the Jag that!)
I especially like your avatar, JimC64...gotta love Audi's. As I said, I do sell them, so come see me for your next, haha.![Smile](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Have a great week all!
