Hi Folks, My name is Jonny. I live in the east of Scotland and i just took the plunge and bought my first Jag!

Hoping you lovely people can give some advice on this...

So i just bought my first X-type Deisel 2005 on Saturday. It's done 65k miles and seems very clean.

Only issue is upon switching on the ignition i get a long 10 second beep/alarm sounding. Is this normal? It then allows me to start the car and it seems to drive fine with no warning lights.

The rear parking sensors are not working.

Quite concerned and really hoping i havent blown all my cash on a lemon.

Please can anyone give me any advice on this?

Cheers

Jonny

You have a Glow Plug warning, Jonny, that's how they're supposed to work. Since a diesel doesn't have spark plugs to start ignition, there must be a heat source to get it going, and then it will run on its own.

10 seconds is the normal time for the glow plugs to warm to the point they will ignite the fuel/air mixture. After starting they shut down as they're not needed any more.

For more details and assistance someone will direct you to the correct section for your car.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Default Welcome to Jaguar Forums

Welcome Jonny ... and greetings from a fellow enthusiast in Australia.

The X-Type is an excellent drive and I encourage you to jump over to the X-Type model specific section where there is plenty to read and absorb ... especially about park assist sensors and the initial audible beep warning that is emitted at ignition turn-on if, as in your case, they fail.

Also, it's worth a visit to the regional section shared by other members in your area ... and finally, if not yet done so, add your car details to your signature as a permanent flag to enable other members to offer accurate advice ... from Main Menu, click <User CP> then <Edit Signature>.

All that remains is to dive into the forum ... and enjoy!

Best wishes,
Ken
