New owner of x-type, 2002
Am new owner of a Jaguar and love driving it! My grandson asked what my favorite car was one day and I told him a Jaguar, but that I'd never be able to afford one. 6 months later, I find this red 2002 x-type with only 77,000 miles at I price I couldn't resist. Exterior and interior are in near mint condition so I feel like I'm driving a new car! Am a bit worried about the expense of fixing these things. My husband has a BMW and I often tease him that he's spent enough in repairs to buy a new one. I hope I won't go down that same road. However, after 1 week of driving, I was surprised to find that my message area said I had 148 miles left in the tank and the tank was on 1/2 full, but the next time I got in, the tank was on empty, the orange light was on, and the message area read "Fuel Computer Data Error". So, I decided to stop and fill it up immediately to see if it was really empty. Was it ever! Tank holds 16.2 gallons and I put in 16.15! I read a post by Thermo that seemed to give very detailed info, but I know NOTHING about vehicles. Fortunately, after spending a small fortune on his BMW, my husband is getting smart quickly about these things. Am hoping he can follow the instructions Thermo gave. Other than this error message, have had absolutely no problems so far. After reading some of the posts on that type of error, however, am almost afraid to use the sun roof and other items. Anyway, I am glad this forum is here and will check back frequently. Hope I continue to love this car as much as I do now. After all, it is my dream car! Hope it doesn't turn into a nightmare!

Welcome to the forum.
Can't help you with your X Type, but the fuel gauge on my XJ40 packed in years ago.
I simply check the computer for distance travelled from the last input of fuel. I've never run out yet and pretty much always seem to add the same amount of fuel.
I should maybe fix it, perhaps one day....
Just a thought until you get it fixed.
