You're the 'car won't start sometimes' problem posted earlier?

This is quite a regular issue on the XK8/XKR 1996 - 2006 section. Try this link for a start to get some background info on keys and remote fobs:

In particular, look at post No 29 in the thread. Beav gives a very good, clear and simple explanation of how these work. It sounds like it could be your transponder coil is on the blink.
