New potential XKR owner in Switzerland
Hi All
I’d like to introduce myself, I’m Chris from the Bern area in Switzerland, where the real Swiss cheese originates from.
Grown up on a small farm I’ve been addicted to everything that comes with a motor of any kind, and became a petrol head pretty quickly.
You can’t call it a collection yet, but next to my every day’s vehicles (a 3l Subaru Outback for the winter and a 2.4T Volvo C70 for summertime) my garage is crowded with a 1972 Citroen DS 21i.e and a 1973 Citroen SM i.e.
I restored the DS and completely rebuilt the SM on my own, every job from complete engine rebuilds and gear box restoration up to interior work was done by me. The only thing I do not touch is body work and paint jobs.
Apart from oldtimer restoration I also do regular maintenance on the two modern cars, my little garage is equipped not only with oldtimer related gear like ignition timing tester and CO meters, but also with OBD devices for modern cars. In fact the DYI garage next door calls me quite often to diagnose their cars.
Right now I look into a new addition to my little herd, a MY 2000 XKR S/C with 170000km, and that’s also the reason to sign up to this forum here.
This Jag comes with a limp paw: the automatic gearbox disconnects when under heavy load. It does act normal and shifts smoothly when driven careful. Other than that the vehicle is in good condition, no dents or bits missing, clean interior, it was always at the Jag dealer for maintenance. No accidents, first owner. The price seems to be very reasonable.
Of course fixing or exchanging the tranny will cost me a little fortune, but I actually prefer to get a car with known issues rather than to pay more for a apparently clean car with (yet) unknown problems. Oh, and I’m long enough in that business to know that also my candidate could come up with some more hidden surprises...
So, if I get this Jag you’ll likely read more of me, if not I’ll be back later – a Jaguar was on my shopping list for a long time already.
Cheers
Chris

I'm really impressed with the amount of helpful information and data that can be found here.
That surely helped to make my decision: I did not buy the XKR with the broken tranny, instead I'm now a proud owner of a blue 3/2000 XKR with 180000km. Pictures to follow.
This one does not want to charge the battery, I'll look into that problem as soon as the Jag shows up.
I'm excited!
