New from Staffordshire UK
Hi all,
Been an owner since October 15 ,bought a 1998 coupe with 120k on the clock from ebay (dont laugh!) for 3 grand. later found that the number plate was worth £850 so was a real bargain.Work done so far:
PAS pump replaced
Headling replaced
Front floor pan plate welded in both sides
All leather recoloured/recoated
Front suspension rebuild
Front chassis plates welded in both sides
Rear suspension rebuild
Both rear sill sections welded in
Both rear arch sections replaced
Drivers side quarter panel welded in
American spec rear bumper and mounts fitted.
Mtec gold grooved /dimpled brake discs fitted all round.
Air snorkle, part load and full load breathers changed to get rid of occasional restricted performance fault.
Stainless sport exhaust fitted
drivers door handle m/s replaced
Boot lock m/s replaced.
1000w amplifier and center parcel shelf speaker audio upgrade.
On my to do list:
Check timing chains, previous owner said they had been changed to new spec
Tranny oil change
Squeal to investigate coming from front of engine for 2 minutes after startup ,suspect AC compressor.
Professional respray to cover up my DIY paint job on rear, to be fair it wasn't that bad but I'm not a sprayer!
So from that you can see that I'm not really afraid of anything on the car at the end of the day its only nuts and bolts and I'm a mechanical engineer by trade so bring it on. To be fair , even with all of the work, its been a very reliable and predictable car.
Regards

Welcome to the forum Paul,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
That's some work list you've got through. Don't leave investigating the tensioners too long as the plastic ones can go without warning.
I can see you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link UK & Eire - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.

Hello, Paul,
To say it's a "reliable and predictable car" after all the work you've done to it speaks not only to the quality of your work but your own confidence in it. It's easier to trust a car when you've had your fingers into all these systems and know their condition, isn't it.

LnrB,
thanks for that, forgot to mention that whilst the rear suspension was in bits I changed all of the UJ's on the driveshafts and also wheel bearings/pivot bearings. Not because they were faulty but they were fairly cheap items and i don't want to have to strip it all again! just love getting my hand dirty which I miss since moving from 'on the tools' to a management job.
