Default New UK Member requesting Advice please!

Hi all!

My name is Mitch, and my online handles are either Lunar Wolf, or Pil Sung. (Long stories!!)

Although i'm new to this site, i am not new to Jaguars or Daimlers, nor to forums!

I'm sure we will find out more about each other soon, but as it happens, i need some urgent advice for you guys who are able and willing to help!

I am about to embark on the purchase of a 2001 Daimler Super V8 LWB to add to my garage collection.

Although it's done nigh on 160,000 miles, it has full Guy Salmon Service History at the right intervals, and seems to be a great buy.

Is there anything i need to check specifically to these vehicles?

I am aware of the usual struts / rear auto-levelling pipes etc, but not much else.

I've also heard rumours about the windscreens rotting from the inside out. How devastating is this?
The reason i ask is because the ONLY visible imperfection is a halfpenny-sized blister on the bottom left hand corner of the rear windscreen. (photo's to follow if the dealer complies).

The car's advert can be viewed Daimler Super V8 LWB 4.0 Supercharged For Sale (2001) on Car And Classic UK.

Incidentally, the main picture looks as if the bonnet line doesn't match up.... It does. The photo was taken with the pull lever popped!

Does the issue of the aircon-rotting doors still occur on this age of vehicle too?
all assistance GREATLY appreciated!

In summary, i need info on....
  • Any vehicle-specific "look out fors"
  • Windscreen rotting info
  • aircon door rotting info
  • anything else
I look forward to chatting with you all in due course.

Mitch.

Welcome to the forum.

(Please stop posting duplicates, I can hardly keep up) whew. Understand what you were trying to do. But still!

I'd look around more, lower mileage, non rusty examples are available from around £2000 for this year. AutoTrader.co.uk from a few minutes ago.

Good to see you.

Welcome Mitch,

The total production of X308 was 126,260 of which only 2,387 were Daimler Super V8 LWB.

If this is the one particular X308 derivative you've decided on, a one owner car with full main Jaguar Dealer service history is an extraordinary find. The usual mechanical weak points pale into insignificance next to bodywork and interior condition. It's only 120 miles up the motorway and it's a buyer's market.........
