Default New X-Type Owner

Hello everybody, just joined the Jaguar forums for the first time.
I've got a 2002, X-Type that I had picked up almost 2 years ago.

Since then it's always been a great dependable car for me!
Two words that usually don't go together, "Jaguar & Dependable"

Anyhow I had picked up this beauty with 69,000 Miles on the dash.
Interior was immaculate with the services maintained at the Jaguar
dealership since late 2003 until 2012. Since then most of the maintenance
was done by the previous owners son in-law.

Since then I've added about another 9K miles to the car the past 2 years.
As of right now it has about 78k Miles on the dash.

Here's a little bit of history on the car, it's a Salvage Title.
The last owner about a year prior to giving the car to the son in law
was an older gentleman, with hard eyesight he attempted to merge onto
the local highway where he didn't check his blind spot and was side swiped.

The vehicle had both front and rear driver side doors damaged including damage
to the rear quarter panel where the door meets into the door jamb next to the wheel well.

A few months later the daughter borrowed the car and backed up into the rear of a truck near
the same rear side of the car, this time pushing in another section of the quarter panel nearest
to the tail lamp assembly. Damage was done to the rear bumper cover and the trim and paint
are beyond repair.

Shortly after picking up the vehicle I decided to go to my local scrapyard to find another in
the original color of black and replace both doors on the vehicle that were damaged.
Looks significantly better now. Since then I've been on the hunt for a replacement rear
bumper cover that's in a decent condition (Hard to find one that hasn't been rear ended)

Needless to say it drives straight with no alignment issues, with the doors replaced
most of the small cosmetic damage from the side is unnoticeable unless you're close.
The rear bumper cover is the only really bad blemish I need to replace soon prior
to getting any body work done somewhere here in southern California.

Anyhow..
I've essentially done most of the basic maintenance as you should when
you buy a used vehicle. Especially when you don't trust the son in-law.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parts List
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • New full synthetic oil change using Castrol 5W-30
  • New Bosch Oil filter
  • New Ford Motorcraft Spark Plugs (That was the original plug)
  • Flushed the cooling system and used the recommended ford coolant
  • New oil drain plug
  • New Pentium gaskets upper and lower
  • Replaced PCV hose assembly with a used part with roughly 33k Miles. (Can't find a reasonable new one)
  • Replaced expansion tank with used part with roughly 33k Miles. (Really good condition no cracks & clean)
  • New expansion tank pressure cap.
  • New tires front and back with 4 wheel alignment.
  • Brakes inspected and essentially new with rotors. (Replaced a few months prior to purchase.)
  • New MAF sensor (started to give P0171 & P0172)
  • New Duracell battery
================================================== ==============================

Any advice for a new owner such as myself for this car as far as maintenance goes?
Is this car dependable enough to use as a daily driver, or should I look to sell it or get a secondary car.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forums.
I wasn't so lucky with my Dodge. Only found a white door, had to get it sprayed blue. Also swap the mirror because the one that came with it didn't work electrically.
Enjoy the Drive.

Welcome to the forum Ryan,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Lucky enough to find the right doors in a scrapyard, let alone the right colour!

I know you've already found your way to the X-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Western Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/western-us-ak-ca-nv-ut-hi-wa-id-38/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Welcome.

You have done WELL with the X Type.

ALL my Jags have been Daily Drivers from the go get. Averaging 30K kms per year, sometimes more.

They are only as good as the person looking after them, and that goes for ANY brand of car.

Maintain it well and drive the wheels off it, as Elinor says.
