Default New XK8 Owner

After a couple of drinks on a Friday lunchtime and a wayward ebay bid I now find myself the owner of a '97 XK8 in reasonable nick - bit of a change from the Renault Espace.

According to the documentation it's on its third engine and second gearbox but apart from costing a few quid to get some suspension work done, and sort out a rash of traction control errors, all appears to be well.

Next on the list is to sort out the panel/instrument/warning lights as half of them are out - I guess it would make sense to do the lot while I'm at it so is there a list of part numbers, or third party equivalents, so I can get a stock in before starting?

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome - the first engine change was under the exchange programme for the linings, second one was as a result of a split oil line. So although the car has done 155k miles, since the current engine has only done 50k I'm hoping it will be good for a few miles yet.

Hi Tex, I personally haven't been behind the instrument cluster, but I am pretty sure other members have had to get behind there to replace a bulb or two. I'm really surprised to hear that so many are out at once. Can you identify which ones are out upon ignition? With them being on only for short times, I'd doubt they would fail at all.

My parts catalogue doesn't show bulb part numbers behind the cluster. Not sure you will be able to source them except for the dealer.

If the bulbs have the little colored 'rubber condoms' (we've seen blue and green ones) as we call them around here, I remember a member getting other bulbs from a hardware store, re-soldering them onto the base of the original, and placing the little condom back on with success.

Thanks for that - there's a real mix of lamps gone - on the dashboard the left hand side of the Rev counter looks a tad dark and the handbrake warning light doesn't come one, about a third of the illuminations on the button panel are out eg traction control off, temp up and down, then the Sports and Cruise Control button don't light, though the red light does come on when it's engaged. And the light behind the radio display so I can't tell what freq or station etc I'm listening to at night. None of which is any great shakes (apart from driving around with the handbrake on for the first week or two) .

Thanks for all the friendly greetings to the rest of you as well..

Hi Tex, a late welcome from me. The normal behavior for the Speed and Cruise Control buttons is to only light up red when they are activated. That is one less thing you need to worry about

EDIT: Oops! It appears they do light up. Nevermind then
