New XK8 Owner - My First Car!
Hello all,
I am the proud new owner of a BRG 1997 XK8 convertible (4.0 5HP24)! Bought it with 119k on the clock and no lights on the dash for $2,960! I need to get her to pass MD state inspection, so I may be drawing on the expertise of this forum very soon.
This is the first car I have ever been the sole owner/driver of. In the past, I bought my parents a 1992 S-10 and a 2004 Buick LeSabre which I have done some minor work on over the years (mostly suspension and brake work).
I have wanted an XK since playing with the Hot Wheels version of it as a toddler. Now that dream has come true! I know conventional wisdom is to avoid a "cheap" Jag or other premium car like the plague, but I just had a good feeling about this one. I bought it from a kindly older Briton who really seemed to take decent care of it. He said he had replaced the water pump recently, though he didn't know if it was with a plastic or metal impeller. Also said he had had the ABS unit refurbished at some point and replaced some suspension parts in the front. Drives smooth and tight, and flies like **** off a shovel!

Welcome to the forums Gumbo,
Good to have you with us. I must have missed that description of the performance in the XK8 brochure.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. The PO has mentioned many of the regular issues but if he didn't include plastic tensioners, have a look for the topic.
Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Mid Atlantic Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-mid-atlantic-65/ to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.
Graham
