Default New XKR owner from Germany

Hello to all of you!

My name is Wolfgang, i live in Germany in the surrounding of the ruhrgebiet - working as an IT-Specialist.

As an BMW-Driver over the last 15 years I'm nearly new to the Jaguar-Scene. OK, everybody knows E-type, MkII or XJ - but XKR? What's that

The first time i saw an XKR 'by random' watching a 'wheelers dealers' episod in 2012, I was REALLY impressed of the X100 design and started looking at a real-life example while driving around - with no success!

It lasts several month to get an overview of the pro's an con's, mainly with the help of this (and other - sorry, I've affairs) forum.

The rest is well known by everybody who has tried to get one of these cars - looking at internet-auctions, selling platforms - getting told real bullshit from sellers - so you drive a few hundred kilometers around for inspecting a dead horse...

Ok, in September i got one X100 4.2l MY2004 Coupe in titanium with black interieur - Ok, a littlebit pricey, but who cares. (where is the damned crying smiley)

Now, after a business-intensive period in the last few month, I will try to get rid of the few Squirks the car has, ATM im working on softly modifiing the car's entertainment by integration of an Android-Navigation box.

I hope I can post some pic's later.

greetings Wolf

Herzlich Wilkommen

I bet you are enjoying the Supercharger on the Autobahns.
Pity you didn't sign on sooner, you could have joined us at the Nordschleife a few weeks back...
Always good to see a BMW convert, especially one from Germany.

Where are the pics man???

Many thanks for the friendly welcome, sounds a little bit like an enthusiast-family.

BTW, i read really tons of threads in this forum, when it comes to technical aspects - and i appreciate the pleasant intercouse of the members - i hope this is the right term, i'm not so genius with foreign languages out of C and assembler . It's really fun to be here!

And yes, Nordschleife would have been funny, but i think there are a few things to be done before - my pedometer tells something about a little worn bushings at the rear axle.

I was very busy with my business- also more busyness- in the last few month. So i could only drive and do some very little repair. The car has a low mileage of now 86000 Km, but i think the rubber-parts on the axles degrade over 9 years, even when you are not driving. What do you think?

Ah, i had not to convert - The BMW nevertheless is in use, i love it's accuracy and durability. The last 5er i owned was sold with round about 420000 km on the speedo without serious problems. But it's a "transporter" for business, the Jag is for Fun - and you know how much fun it is to go WOT with the compressor-engine.

cambo351: How often do you come from switzerland to the nordschleife?

cheers

Wolf

PS: I'll try to make some pictures in the next days...

whiteXKR: You did a really serious work with your gauge-adaption. I'm thinking about it, but i like to stay with the nav-screen - maybe only the temperature and an additional oil-pressure-gauge?

Hi Wolf-
Many people stay with the nav. screen and just add the RealGauge temperature option. This will still add an audible alarm feature for low oil pressure.

If you add an external oil pressure gauge, there is an adapter available on my site that will make the jaguar compatible with most aftermarket oil pressure gauges, and also let you keep the factory low oil pressure switch installed as a backup.

whitexkr: The hint regarding the adapter is a good starting point, but i have to think about getting the additional instrument 'onboard' -and as i saw yesterday, the previous owner had some 'repair' to the dashboard of the instrument cluster done: the backside is covered with some epoxy - around min. 2 Tons, i guess. So i can't even get the trip-computer buttons out. merde!

jimc64: Funny, that part of the forum got out of my eyes so far, and thanks for the account-upgrade!

Default Pic's - late better than never

Hello alltogether!

After visiting some kind of an oldtimer-exhibition in Duisburg in autumn 2013, we catched an 'old-style little bit freaky i don't like that digital stuff' photographer, hasten around my car with a tripod. Because i'm really, really not good with doing pic's, i made a deal with him. He could do every pic he likes - and i'll get a copy. Now, some short month's later i have the paper in hands - and from my dilletante-side of view - they show me the striking aspects of using an analog camera. OK, no real artwork, as he shoots for a car-archiv, but nevertheless i like them... ( And i swore, i'll clean the car inside before entering any kind of exhibition in the future :-(

And BTW: with the valuable info from here, in the meantime i was able to repair my intermittend Airbag-fail, caused by a bad soldered contact (shop-work i think, to get rid of the original connectors) under the seat and in the seat's backside. So: Thank's to all members! I hope, i'll be able to give something back in the future...

greetings from the ruhrgebiet

Wolf
