Good morning everyone.
Picking up my first used Jaguar tomorrow - a newbie to the marque!
However, given the model, I don't know if I actually qualify as a Jag owner -particularly given the stick I received last night from a drinking pal who spent 40 years working on some of the finer models. Apparently, I'm buying a Mondeo - an issue that has probably been discussed upon this forum many, many times.
I'm 51, and for the past 25 years have been an avid Mercedes enthusiast. Nothing was ever going to change my passion from the 3 pointed Stuttgart Star. Then, I had a ride in a work colleague's X-Klasse..........whooooops, sorry X-type. I was absolutely blown away with the ride and build quality. Even on these baby Jags, the quality of construction leaves many newer Mercs seriously wanting.
I've therefore purchased a X-type 2.1 V6 SE (manual) that looks, and drives, as if it's just a couple of years old.
So tomorrow, it's "auf wiedersehen" to a 1978 W123 Series Mercedes that has given me a lot of pleasure for the past 6 years. Although mechanically sound, one literally needs a bottomless pit of money to keep the bodywork from rotting into oblivion. Admittedly, that has to be expected on a 37 year old car. However, having looked at much newer Mercedes over the past few months, rust seems to be a far too frequent, ongoing problem.
I truly believe that my love affair with Mercedes-Benz is finally over.
Time will tell.
