Old/New Member-Sad Jag Story
Please forgive the fact that I am finally getting around to the required intro after many years of stalking for tips. My Jaguar journey has been a difficult one. I first bought a ‘71 E-Type coupe back in the 90’s...a dream car from childhood. Other than some more minor fixes, it drove fine for several years. I eventually noticed a peculiar sagging in the middle. Research revealed that my rockers were succumbing to rust deterioration. I saved some cash for a while for the sizable repair. Found a shop in Waterford, MI that did such repair work on classic euros like mine and bit the bullet. About a month later to review the progress, the owner sold the shop and I met the new owner…who was inexperienced with auto restoration. I met the body guy who was retained to work on my car, so I thought I’d be ok. A couple of months later the new owner called me to “come and get my car because they were going out of business Saturday”. I got there late Thursday to find body/interior pieces spread throughout the shop! While collecting parts, the guy who was doing the work on it asked what I was doing. No one in the shop knew they were going out of business! This caused all of the staff to storm the owner’s office. She was bankrupt and abandoning the shop. I struck a deal with the body guy who had a shop at his home. Long story short, he completed some of the work but invested in his own shop only to also go bankrupt a year later. Lost his house as well. Wouldn't return my calls or answer the door. Police found my newly painted and partially assembled car outdoors in the snow and mud. State cops watched while I once again collected my stuff and towed it back home. Couldn’t recoup any $$$$. Lawyers said I was way back in the line of creditors. Finally sold the car a few years later. Still love Jags but this stung for quite a while. Bought a 2002 XK8 convertible in 2019 and have been fixing on it since. Drives pretty good now…fingers crossed. Thanks to all who contribute to this forum. I hope I can do the same one day.

Welcome to the forums Mjackson78,
Ouch!
I can see you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Midwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-midwest-39/ to find other members in your region.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums.
