Picking up my Jag this weekend!
Hi everybody,
Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I am planning on picking up a 2003 Jaguar S-Type 4.2 litre this weekend as my daily driver. I have a 2003 Nissan 350z that's pretty modified and I use that as my track car but I am using a 1995 Infiniti G20 as my daily right now. I love Nissan's but after doing a lot of research I am excited to get a Jaguar. I've always loved the S-Types and I can't wait to pull my new car into the garage. Any ways, I do all my own work to my cars so I look forward to learning a lot from everybody on here and hopefully I won't even have to do much maintenance to the car. Good to be here and can't wait to read through lots of threads and learn a ton. Thanks and it'll be good to get to know everyone.

RE: Picking up my Jag this weekend!
Hey Fletch, welcome to the forum. Take it from someone that bought the S-type as a daily driver...DON'T MOD IT! You'll find out REALLY quick that modding a Jag is much more expensive than modding a Z. I have a 240, which is really cheap to mod, and it can get overwhelming, so if you have a Z AND an S, you'll be broke and bankrupt by this time next year. I too own a G20, but I have a P11. Funny thing is I was going to trade in my S for a Z about 2 or 3 months ago, and the numbers just didn't match up. Good thing too, because I would've dumped all my money into it, and it would've defeated the purpose of having a daily to fix up my 240. Would've been cool though to have all three cars in the Nissan family. A P11, a Z33 and an S13. LOL! Hope you love your S as much as I love mine and don't go crazy and dump all your money into it.

RE: Picking up my Jag this weekend!
Well, my wife and I are trying to have a baby and we think we might be pregnant this month (hopefully). But the bad thing about that is that I have temporarily been put on hold for the Jag.... Once we know something more I can move forward again. I'm sad now but I wanted to get your opinions on this Jag since you all know more about Jags then me. It's a 2003 S-type 4.2 liter. Here's the listed options: Air Conditioning, Alarm System, Alloy Wheels, AM/FM, Anti-Lock Brakes, Automatic Climate Control, Back Up Sonar, CD, CD Changer, Driver Airbag, Fog Lights, Heated Seats, Keyless Entry, Leather Seats, Passenger Airbag, Power Doors, Power Locks, Power Mirrors, Power Seats, Power Windows, Rear Air, Rear Defroster, Side Airbags, Sun Roof, Tilt Wheel, Traction Control, Woodgrain. It has 98K miles on it and the asking price is $10,800. What I am looking for is a mix of luxury but I also need space (anything has more than the Z) and it needs to be reliable (want the car to last for probably at least another 5 years-I drive about 12-15K a year in my daily). I have been looking at similar Infiniti's and Lexus's but for the money and the newness of the Jag I like it as an option too. Do you guys think this would be a good option based on my description and the miles on this car for the price? Thanks for any input!

RE: Picking up my Jag this weekend!
So you're talkin bout takin it to anywhere between 160k 170k over the next five years?
For specialist advice on that we'll need the S type owners to chip in a bit here Fletch.
All I can offer is advice purely on mileage but not model / make specific.
I ran around 4 Ford Mondeos ( diesels ) up to around 160k miles over a 3 year period. Up hill n down dale, hammered them most of the time as they were company cars, yet well maintained and regularly too.
Never really had any major problems to speak of I have to day. Just bear in mind that these were diesel variants though and hopefully some S typers will chime in with their mileage and thoughts..

RE: Picking up my Jag this weekend!
Thanks! Anybody have any opinions on the liklihood of an 03 4.2 S-type w/98K miles on it lasting for approx. 5 years at 12-15K miles a year?
Most likely, just change the oil & fluids and of course stay off the curb.
"Preventitive Maintenance is a whole lot cheaper than Corrective maintenance." as quoted by Dennis.

To be honest, I wouldn´t put my money on a Jag if you need it to last 5 years. I´ve had mine for 1 and I bought with less miles than that and I feel like it´s ready to go...but then again the 03 was completely redone and made far more reliable. I would jump on it if you can pick up and extended warranty.

Ehh with baby and all that jazz, I wouldn't purchase it. You'll be spending more time maintaining the thing than enjoying the kid.
Realistically, at 98k miles, any car is going to be needing rigorous maintenance to get to shape, and still components will fail at that age.
I haven't checked KBB/NADA but that price seems a bit high for 98k miles. If your budget was low 10k's and you're looking for comfort/luxury, personally I would go for a Volvo. Those things are tanks, but aren't very eye-appealing (though you gotta admit the S60R is one hot ride!).
Good luck and let us know what you decide. BTW, more info on the 350Z/pictures?!?!
