Default Potential XJ owner

Hello

North Florida senior citizen here living in St. Augustine. Currently driving a year 2000 Infinity Q45 with 184K miles.

I am thinking about buying a used XJ (2004, 2005) or an older XJ8, and am seeking advice. I used to drive a 1996 Burgundy Red XJ6 and an XK8. I loved that XJ6 and the color was my favorite. The XK8 was nice, but for a senior citizen like me it was too difficult to get in and out of, and not very practical.

I now own a year 2000 Infinity Q45 with 180K+ miles on it which I want to give to one of my grandsons. In a few months I will be looking for an older luxury car in 2002-2005 range. Have looked at Mercedes E and S class as well as Infinity Q45 and M35. From a reliability point of view I would probably be better off getting another infinity. However, my heart belongs to Jaguar.

I welcome any advice others may like to offer in terms of the good, the bad and the ugly. I wouldn't be averse to an older (pre-2004) XJ8 that has low mileage (under 75K) and well taken care of.

Hello, Graham,
I'm relatively new to Jaguar myself. I've seen elderly people driving some "modern" Jags but I'm sorry to say I don't know the models.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome, sir! Might I recommend a 2005-2006 XJ8 Vanden Plas. Priced well now, more modernized than the <2003 XJ8, very comfortable and very roomy (from what I understand)!

Welcome aboard Graham. As said you have come to the right place for 'informed' information. If you use the links GGG Graham has provided will get a better result.

Jaguar has improved reliability since your XJ6 and apart from a few foibles they are pretty solid and reliable in the years you are looking at.

A great service history is the best advise I can offer and we hope to see you post again soon with an update.
Best of luck with the decisions ahead...Neil.

Those of us who can spell it properly have to stick together!

As I live around fifty miles from the Scottish border, I frequently receive things addressed 'Graeme'.

Welcome to the forum Graham!

If you post your questions at both the X308 ('97-'03) and X350 ('04-'09) forums, you'll get some great advice about what to look for.

Cheers,
