Hi all, just joined the forum. Having driven nothing but Jaguar XJ's over the last 18 years I'm not sure why it's taken me so long! I bought my first XJ in 1995, an X300 3.2 Sport. Then bought a 1998 X308 4.0, then in 2001 an X308 XJR. In 2006 I bought one of the limited edition XJR 4.2 Portfolio's and 3 weeks ago I traded for my current, and 5th, XJ - a 2012 3.0D Portfolio SWB. This is the first one I've not bought new but the only previous owner was the Jaguar factory and they put just 2100 miles on it so hopefully it's a good'un.
Whilst each of my previous XJ's felt like a steady progression and improvement on the previous model, the X351 I have to say feels totally different - it really is in a different class. Negative thoughts? - well, I do miss my SC V8 a bit. The 3.0D is certainly quick but it makes neither the great sound nor has the oomph of the XJR's. But then neither one of my XJR's could achieve 40mpg!
I have a few teething problems with this 'new to me' car but hopefully they will get resolved over the next few weeks. I see from the Forum that I've not got the only XJ that says "Battery Low - Start Engine". I wonder if anyone else has had that apparently resolved by software update only to then find that the FM (but not DAB) radio wont memorise any presets when the ignition is switched off?
