Hi all,
I have found myself with a nice 02 x-type with only 70K miles and chuffed to bits![Icon Mrgreen](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)
I have managed to get myself in to a bit of a situation with it already, after only my first day with the keys! (But I'll post that elsewhere, in what I hope will be the correct section - If anyone can help with an immobilised car, please follow my second post!)![Icon Redface](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)
I have to be honest and say I don't think I can help out with anything technical / mechanical or common sensical, but I'm as keen as mustard to join the Jaguar world!
Had a look round, and see it's a great forum, with plenty of banter, along with all the help when needed.
Good to be here![Icon Steer](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_steer.gif)

Hello,
Yes, we have Loads of banter in here, so one best not take oneself too seriously as it's all in good fun!
Which brings me to locking yourself out of your 'new' Jaguar (congratulations on that by the way) and managing to immobilize it on the very first day.
Never mind, our X-type section will doubtless be able to help you out with that; one of the Mods will be along shortly to direct you there.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Shepherd,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
I can see you've already found your way to the X-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
You can also visit the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link UK & Eire - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.

Thanks for the welcomes - seems a not too intimidating forum for a newbie like me ![Big Grin](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Already made use of the fantastic help here, when I was advised to go back to basics and sort out a flat battery instead of looking for the complicated and non existent immobiliser problem![Icon Redface](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)
Still, it's only embarrassing face to face - behind a keyboard, I'm happy to be stoopid!

Shep,
You'll read that same battery advice given frequently on the forums. It's not intended to cause any embarrassment but because it's been found to be a regular cause of sudden non-starts or mysterious electrical phenomenon.
Modern Jaguars (any model from mid 1990's onwards) are extremely sensitive to battery condition and lots of members have spent hours troubleshooting electrical issues only to find it was a low battery or loose battery cables. Consequently, start with the simplest possibility and work up to the more complex and costly ones.
There is no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to maintaining and repairing Jaguars. They're complex beasts and no one knows it all. I'm still learning after owning and running them for over forty years.
