Proud owner of RHD 97 XJ Sport 4.0 X300
Hi, I'm Dave, living part time in Spain, near Málaga, and part time in UK near Reading. I've owned this lovely to drive 4.0 XJ Sport X300, Since March 2000 when it was 3 1/2 years old with 27,000 miles on the clock.
We drove the car t from UK to southern Spain in 2007 when we acquired a house here in the hills between Alhaurin el Grande and Coín. It passed its ITV inspection, with minor mods to the headlamps, and was re-registered in Spain 2008. In 2009 I bought a Freelander 2 as the roads to the house were terrible and the engine developed a fault (to be discussed in another thread)
I'm a retired Electronic Engineer, but have loved messing with motors since I could afford one - and that first one indeed needed some personal attention. several engine rebuilds later on various cars brought me to my still favourite 2nd XJ6, an X300 4.0 Sport. The last of the straight 6's with bags of torque low down and the handling of the sport version still appeals to this aging driver.
After standing covered under our car port for the past 10 years, the petrol tank cleaned out, new petrol pump, a service and new battery, it fired up on the button - as it always has. I love it still. At 24 years old it needs some suspension rubbers replacing and widow winder attention, but we're just getting going again.
Reason for joining the forum is that I've never really done much on this car other than drive it, so will be looking for a few pointers on the way to putting it back on the road.
. Thanks in advance
Dave
