Welcome to the forum John,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
Coded radios have a 4-numeric code. Originally the vehicle will have had two cards in the document set showing the code and the radio serial number. This example is from my X300:
Is this original Jaguar card what you have or is it just a code written down and passed on from a PO?
The code only applies to the original radio fitted at the factory. If it has been replaced then a dealer can't help and neither can online service claiming to be able to supply a code from the vehicle VIN.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj6-xjr6-x300-26/ to the X300 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the Australia - Victoria/Tasmania Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/usa-lower-atlantic-nc-sc-fl-ga-66/ to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.

From one S-type owner to another... Welcome. The S-type forum is populated with a very friendly group and contains a wealth of knowledge.
Have you tried asking an independent repair facility to call the dealer and request the code? I cannot speak for Scotland, but over here "across the pond" it is pretty much a reciprocal courtesy between the parts department of the Dealer and shops that buy from them. Lots of radios loose their codes while undergoing repairs that involve interrupting the car's power supply.
