Rawr!
Hello! JagDrag here!
I've been quietly looking through the forums for a while now, and figured it was about darn time I joined in the orchestrated chaos here.
I currently own a 1993 red XJ40 with the 4.0 I6 (no clue what trim level it is, I think its a fully loaded base model), and although it does have some issues, I absolutely LOVE my old fat cat.
However, I am in a bit of a strange situation with this car. It was actually gifted to me by my dad back in May this year, when I had a crappy (but reliable) 1999 Mercury Tracer for a daily beater. He said it ran flawlessly for the two months he drove it before handing it off to me, but just two days after getting Nigel, he decided to throw a fit and the transmission went into limp mode. It took about a month to figure out the culprit (bad TPS and a neutral safety switch in need of adjustment), but while the cat was out of commission I did something stupid involving a damp road and nearly bald tires, and ended up sliding my Mercury into a guardrail...great
So out of neccessity, my jag (still in need of some TLC) is now my daily driver, come rain, hail or high water. But wait, it gets better...when it comes to maintenance, I have exactly ZERO experience. I've never even changed my own oil, let alone changed a tire, brakes, etc. My dad could easily handle a car like this since he's a trained mechanic, but this is the sort of vehicle you get if you can take an engine apart and put it back together all by yourself, or at least do some electrical work...I guess its a case of "learn fast or die" for me :P
So yeah, hopefully I can learn a thing or two and enjoy this awesome chariot for a while. At the very least I'd like to fix up a few nagging problems so I can sell it to someone worthier than I who could take proper care of a car like this. In the meantime, I hope to find help and maybe have a little fun along the way
