Default Re-joining after a long silence

Just signed back in after a quiet period.

I've owned a 98 VDP since she was a few months old (early lease return) that now has 145K miles on the clock. She's a southern US car I bought when living in Texas, moved to the UK for a year and since 2003 has lived on Vancouver Island. She's been all over the US and Canada & all around Europe. All my kids have learned to drive on her (& I've bought a front air dam for each of them plus me).

Hello and welcome,

Texas to Vancouver is a good range but that's a well travelled Jaguar on two Continents. You must have some tales to tell.

Welcome to the forum,

Good to have you with us.
It's a bit like coals to Newcastle, bringing a Jag to the UK, but it must be one of the most travelled cars around.

You should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

Sar, got any pics of the very well travelled 98VDP? Especially in England, the car's home country.

Thx for the welcome.

Did a quick look and the only photos I find are from the work I've done over the years & none of anything but bits of the car in exotic locales........

For the UK folks, home in the UK was Oxfordshire & the funny part of the stay was I was never able to get the car UK registered as I couldn't get Jag to issue me a letter showing it had type approval for the UK. They would only write a loosy goosy letter saying it was manufactured such that it could meet all criteria required, but wouldn't specifically say type approval. The issue was that it had "certain aspects" that were market specific and not UK type compliant (ie the hood leaper, no repeater lamps on the front wings and headlamps factory set up for the left hand drive market). I couldn't persuade the MOT folks in Reading that since I had an MOT in hand as well as a letter from the garage saying they had made all necessary changes for UK compliance, I did meet the requirements of Type approval (I had all the light changes made, but the garage I got the MOT at agreed that the leaper belonged on the car & MOT'd her with it still in place). In the end, it all became a very circular thing so I gave up after several tries. As it was I ended up coming back to Canada after a year and the entire time there she was on Texas plates which got me quite a few comments, but never a blink from the police or any border agents anywhere I drove (and they were expired ones for the last few weeks as well.....).

Matthew.r has been having similar issues trying to get a US (LHD) spec XK8 which was imported to the UK and then to France type approved for France. After almost six months he's nearly there!
