Reintroduction After Long Term Absence

Reintroduction After Long Term Absence
Hello everyone. Thought I should reintroduce myself as I joined many years ago, but only posted a few times then disappeared. My name is Michael, I'm 29, and live just outside Pittsburgh, Pa. I joined back in 2013 when I helped my mum take care of her 1998 Jaguar XK8, but kinda fell off the map as life became busy. Unfortunately, tragedy struck in April 2020 when a driver of an SUV turned left into the front corner of the car on a high speed road. My mum's beloved XK8 was a total write-off. Front left frame rail bent in, front subframe ripped out, engine torn from mounts, rear IRS system ripped from floor, right hand rocker panel caved in and car bent upwards in half on right hand side. Alarmingly the crash was hard enough to knock the speaker grills and fascia out of the dash but none of the airbags blew. Happily no one was injured.
She is going to get another, and I am currently helping her search for the perfect XK8 for her.. For me things have been looking up. In May I bought a classic car, a 1974 Jensen-Healey, and last week I FINALLY became the owner of my own Jaguar. It was actually by complete accident that I came to own the car. I work for a Toyota dealer as a "Parts Professional" (Toyota's official name for Parts Counterperson), and a gentleman came in for parts for his Sienna. We got to chatting and he mentioned he had an old Jag that he was looking to sell. I say I may be interested and go to look at it the following day.. I get there and I see it in the back of his house along with a list of other project cars... a Brooklands Green 1993 Jaguar XJ6. I immediately knew that if the price was right, it would be mine. He said the magic number of $1000 and 4 days later it was on a flatbed headed for my house. So hopefully I'll be more active as I delve into what is basically uncharted territory for me. I know classic cars (it's what I went to college for), but newer cars (90s and up) are a new experience for me, especially as computers factor in more.

Welcome (back) to the forums Michael,
Just as well the impact on the XK8 wasn't much further back towards the door.
You were considering an XJS Coupe in your original Intro in 2013 so a change of plan with the XJ40. Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj40-xj81-25/ to the XJ40 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
Enjoy your Jaguar. It looks a good example.

Graham, Yes I was originally trying to get an XJS V12, but every time I got close to buying one, something happened that would require the funds go somewhere else (house repairs, medical bills, etc). So I had taken the hint and kinda given up. The XJ6 was a happy surprise.
