Hello ~
I just joined Forums after many years as a visiting voyeur. I just purchased a 1996 Vanden Plas from its original owner. Beautiful garnet red (?) metallic with cream interior with 124K miles; thick binder with complete maintenance history with local Jaguar dealer, two key fobs, valet key, all original manuals in pristine condition. All electrics, except steering wheel reach adjustment, operational. Sellers bought a new XJR.
I'm anxious to enjoy Jaguar ownership once again. I had a '91 Sovereign (Phoenix Craigslist for $1000 in 2005). With the help of THIS FORUM I diagnosed and repaired her for $5. Oil cooler's O-ring seals were leaking; previous owner was quoted $2K from dealer to "reseal engine" so he sold it. . . to me. My family and I loved that car. It always got admiring comments while providing the smoothest ride of any car I've owned. Regrettably, I donated her to charity last year after an undetected coolant leak (it's HOT in Phoenix) caused overheating: head gasket failed at 165K. This forum is instrumental in confirming that owning a Jaguar is a wise choice if one uses the resources available. I'm looking forward to comparing the two models.
I'm a sextigenarian college professor/amateur mechanic living in Scottsdale who enjoys doing my own repairs/maintenance. This forum has proven a great resource. I'll post images soon.
