S Type owner in Oklahoma, USA
Hello all. My name is Benji and I live in Norman, Oklahoma. I own an 03 S Type 3.0 manual. I bought the car around 3 years ago for $3000. I've been told by many people that it is a money pit but I can't seem to let it go. Here's some history on it. It has a cracked radiator, it's leaking oil but I can't seem to figure out where from. It also has some sensor issues and is known to go into 'restricted performance', I have to put the car in neutral and turn the key off then back on if I'm driving to get it back to normal. I'm not very savvy when it comes to working on cars but I do not want to give up on this one. I hope that I can find some inexpensive ways to get this vehicle rolling once more.

The manual is pretty rare. I used to live in Norman as well.
Replace the radiator, put the car up on ramps, and wipe the oil off the bottom of the block and pan as best you can, then spray some cheap $1 store white underarm deodorant around the bottom. The white film will tell you where your oil leak is. It'll stand out easily.
If you still can't find it, then go to autozone/whatever car parts store and buy some oil leak detector dye. You drop a cap in your oil filler tube and then shine a blacklight on it. The leak will start glowing.
Works pretty well. They sell the dye kit with a little blacklight flashlight and yellow glasses.
It's like $30 but well worth it.
If you find that the leak is at your valve cover then there are several things you should do while you're down there replacing the valve cover gaskets, namely
Coils
Rubber vacuum elbow (aguar Part #XR845730 or Ford/Lincoln LS part #Ford 3W4Z-6767-CA)
Also replace the vacuum line "breather hose" (this is between the lower vacuum elbow and the upper elbow) Jaguar P/N W0133-1903195 Amazon $8.54 Note this is part of the "oil seperator breather" assembly Jag P/N XR819488
Spark plugs
(if you have >80k miles, then replace the cam chain tensioners as well)
IMT rubber rings
upper & lower intake gaskets
I just replaced all of that on my car with the same engine and I think I was in about $500 all told. But now she's good to go for another five years minimum.
Took me about ten hours to do it all but I was kinda checking pictures on the Internet of how to do it etc while I was wrenching. If I did it again I'd guess about six hours.
Treat yourself to a torque wrench before you start as well because you'll be torquing down the valve covers and intake manifolds and they have a pattern you'll want to follow when tightening and torque values for each bolt.
It's really not hard at all and most of the parts are amazon prime for good quality parts. I didn't order anything directly from Jaguar. Everything was amazon pretty much.
The restricted performance could be your catalytic converters which are $150 each shipped so do the above repairs first, then 02 sensors, and if you're still getting restricted performance likely new cats.
These are sweet cars and really in the grand scheme of things $800 is pretty light bill for getting your card "right" for the next several years of no headaches.
Enjoy. Jealous of that manual transmission.

Welcome to the forum Benji,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
I can see you've already found your way to the S-Type tech forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
Enjoy the forums.

Hello Benji999
I see you've had some very detailed tech. advice....great. I just wanted to say "hello" to a fellow 'S' type owner. I think the current, well up until 2009 'S' type is a terrific modern version of the Mk2 Jag. that just has those 'classic' Jag lines that I really enjoy.
As to your not 'wanting to part with it' .....I understand.....regardless of the, sometimes, fickle nature of Jaguar.....owning one is a 'relationship' not just 'transportation'
Any way......just a short note.....Enjoy!
