Shock absorbers for XJR (X300)
Hi, I am a new member John Herbert from Australia & own a 1996 XJR in carnival red.
Looking recently at shock absorber replacements & it is revealed that the XJR has a unique front shock part no MNA2140AC which is specified for both the XJR & V12 model. Aftermarket only quote a replacement to suit the entire X300 range including Boge who I believe are the OEM supplier.
The following chart explains the situation -
Jaguar (OEM unique to XJR & V12) MNA2140AC
Boge (specified for all X300 models) 36-A67-0
Koni (specified for all X300 models) 26-1592
KYB (specified for all X300 models) 553208
Bilstein (specified to fit XJR & v12 only) 24-018630
Bilstein appears to be the only one to offer a specific unique unit for the XJR together with the Jaguar OEM part MNA2140AC, the other OEM parts for the X300 range being MMD2140AC comfort & MMD2140CC sport.
Just wondering how differrent the OEM unit is to the Boge part 36-A67-0 assuming they are the OEM supplier.

I'm fairly sure that all of the X300s used Bilsteins. I did some research on this some time back but lost my notes but I recall there were a total of 5 variations for the X300s, including the oddball XJR shock for German market cars only. But, Jaguar rationalizes its offering and part number just as the aftermarket does, as you've discovered
Koni (specified for all X300 models) 26-1592
Bilstein is the usual favorite with X300 owners but it would be great if someone would try the Konis and report back. I think they list only single part number becuase they are adjustable
Bilstein (specified to fit XJR & v12 only) 24-018630
For the front of an XJR I come up with 24-067249 (which was originally F4 BE3 6724 M0). The older part number system was more informative as it actually described the shock....if you have the decoding chart....which I lost!
You might find the original Bilstein number on your old shocks. Some Googling, or a call to Bilstein, might reveal more information.
I can't say how different the XJR shocks were versus the standard X300s. Presumably stiffer and different valving....but to what degree I can't say.
If time isn't an issue Bilstein will rebuild your old shocks, or so I'm told.
Cheers
