Sorry for the late intro. Better late than never my aunt always told me
I've been an amateur and professional mechanic for a little over a couple decades now in Michigan. Jack of all trades and master of none. I have no idea how these forums work or the rules so bare with me...and any help is appreciated. I signed up to this site because I'm working on an 84 XJS and I have exhausted all my resources trying to figure out whats going on with it. Now it looks like I have an 85 coming to me with issues also. I'm glad to have a network like this to help me with my deficiencies. Thank you all in advance!

Hello,
I see you're learning one very important thing about working on Jags; when word gets around, and if you're good at it, you won't be lacking work and your shop will never be empty.
People like you who are even willing to even LOOK at working on Olde Jags are Very thin on the ground! Congratulations on having the courage to at least give it a try and do the research.
As Grant mentions above, All mechanical things follow the same basic principles, and once you figure out the British way of thinking and applying those principles it all falls into place.
Each and every one of us had to start at the beginning, even our Gurus, Grant and Doug. As you're already in the trade and understand cars in general, you have a head start on some of our new members, and you'll do Just Fine!
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
