Sorry, new to forums, I am also a human and will try to follow the rules
I just bought a very well taken care of 1996 XJ6 that had made many trips by the previous family from Indiana to Florida, so it has 170+K miles...I've had an 87 Mercedes with well over 200K miles but these XJ's have always been my dream car so i'm hoping that they are able to compete in the same class as the long lasting Mercedes cars. It's definitely the most luxorious car that I've ever had the pleasure to sit it, even the electronical components are amazingly sophisticated for the year. I'm very impressed and just hoping to enjoy for a couple years before too many problems occur.
So far besides a cracking driver's side seat, which i'm going to take another memebers advise and try some elastomer which sounded like it worked well for him.
The only real problem this car has that shows its age is a knocking coming from the rear right wheel area...haven't had a chance to take the wheel off yet to really investigate but assuming it's the suspension blown and will prolly have to replace both sides when i fix it.
Any advise from anyone on any possible home fixes just incase it is not bad enough to need being completely replaced? The guy threw in a sound system which masks the knocking a bit, but i'm not comfortable riding around town bumping and would prefer to fix the knocking myself.

As a '96 car, you would be better posting in the X300 forum which is for you car.
A common fault on these and the previous XJ40 model with virtually the same suspension is a life-expired A-frame bush. This then allows the frame to move around and hit the bodyshell, causing knocking. On the other hand it could be something else, but as you say, likely the suspension. The A-frame is part of the rear suspension assembly.

Oh one other thing you need to put your car details in your signature. I am speaking of the Year, Make & Model. Without it you may not get the input you are looking for.
Please take a moment and read the information provided to you explaining the rules. Be patient and enjoy the site.
You need to go over to the XJ6 section and see what help you can get.
